Welcome to the home of the Parent Teacher Association of the Lakewood Elementary School in Rockville, MD. The purpose of this website is to provide an additional source of information for parents and guardians about PTA activities, membership, volunteer opportunities, and issues impacting our school and/or schools in the Wootton Cluster.
We encourage everyone to play an active role in the education and success of their child in school.
Please take a moment to explore this website and take advantage of all the resources at your disposal. Your feedback will help us enhance the website so please send us your suggestions to swarner@scgcorp.com).
Current PTA Committee Chair Openings
Please note that we are still trying to fill the following committee chair positions:
- Fall Festival (need someone or a small group of people to work withTalk-of-the-Town; organize and recruit volunteers; and publicize/communicate about the event)
- International Night (Coordinate a family night at Lakewood to share and celebrate the many different cultures at Lakewood. The festivities include stations representing the food, facts, and other cultural
items from the various countries that comprise the student body)
- Career Day (work with Ms. Gottesman on date in the Spring and coordinate refreshments)
- Chess Club (Coordinate, publicize, register for an after-school chess program).
- Family Science Night (Coordinate annual science event for parents and students. Recruit volunteers to help setup and assist)
- New Family/Community Building (Organize community events to get new families together and organize small get-togethers for Lakewood families)
Parent volunteers are an essential school resource and parent involvement is at the heart of the success of our school. If you are interested in filling one of these positions, please contact Susie
Warner (swarner@scgcorp.com) or Gita Zoks (zoks.gita@gmail.com).
It is never too late to volunteer
To volunteer, print the volunteer form, complete it, and send it to school or put in the PTA mailbox in the front office in an envelope marked "PTA Volunteers".
Situation Reports
At Lakewood Elementary School, we strive to enhance our level of communication with our parent community members as well as expedite the response time to all stakeholders. We had adopted a process during the 2007-08 school year. Based on community feedback, we would like to enforce the use of this process. Hence, we have provided an electronic format of the situation report template for the Lakewood community. We strongly recommend that you use this template for your issues and concerns. As always, thank you for your continued support and willingness to invest the time in making Lakewood the best that MCPS has to offer. Robin Malcotti, Principal and Nora Jones, Assistant Principal
Discovery Garden
Lakewood created a teaching garden outside the all purpose room as a learning opportunity for our students at every grade level. The garden consists of native Maryland plants and includes different types of gardens and aspects of gardening, including a butterfly garden, a rain garden, bird houses, vegetables, herbs, and composting.

Tennis Balls!
The school still needs about 1,000 tennis balls to place at the bottom of student chairs and desks. This helps protect the floors from getting scratched. Please bring the tennis balls into school or contact a recreation club or gym to see if they will donate any used tennis balls.
Would you like to receive weekly email news updates on Lakewood's happenings?
The PTA sends out weekly email reminders and updates regarding Lakewood events. If you would like to be on the distribution list, please sign up below:
The Lakewood email list is totally private. It is never given out and only the authorized editor of the emails may send messages to the list. It is also a “blind” list, so noone else sees your email address.
